How to Get the Most from a Single Screen Setup

Single monitor racing is the most common sim racing configuration. However, single screens have limited horizontal width, meaning a mathematically correct 1:1 FOV can sometimes narrow your horizontal view so that side mirrors or the apex are outside the frame.

1. Bring the Monitor Closer

Moving your monitor from 80cm to 50cm from your eyes increases your horizontal FOV by over 50% without any perspective distortion!

2. Mount Right Behind Wheel

Position your display directly behind your direct drive or wheel base shaft to maximize the visual screen angle your eyes subtend.

3. Adjust In-Game Camera Seat

Use in-game seat pitch and height adjustments to frame your dashboard and rearview mirror while keeping the 1:1 FOV mathematically lock-tight.

The Single Screen Formula

The horizontal visual angle hFOV for a flat display is given by:

hFOV = 2 × arctan( (Screen Width in cm / 2) / Distance in cm ) × (180 / π)

Vertical FOV (vFOV) is automatically derived based on your screen aspect ratio (16:9, 21:9, etc.).
