About This Project

A simple, accurate tool to help sim racers set the correct camera perspective for their screens.

What is Sim Racing FOV Calculator?

When driving in a simulator, your monitor acts like a window into the virtual cockpit. If your in-game Field of View (FOV) does not match your real-world screen size and viewing distance, distances and speeds will appear distorted.

Every racing game uses a slightly different method to set FOV. Some use vertical degrees, others use horizontal degrees, radians, or custom slider steps. Sim Racing FOV Calculator takes your screen size and eye distance, calculates the exact geometry, and gives you the correct setting for each game in one place.

Why Correct FOV Matters

Using the mathematically correct 1:1 FOV brings key advantages to your driving:

Consistent Braking Points

Objects appear at their real physical distance. A 100-meter marker looks 100 meters away, making your braking points consistent across every car and track.

Realistic Sense of Speed

Prevents the fish-eye effect that makes corners seem faster or slower than they actually are, helping you judge entry speed naturally.

Better Apex Precision

Track curvature matches real-world perspective, so the steering angle you see matches the steering angle you feel in your hands.

Reduced Visual Fatigue

Matching the visual motion to your head position keeps the view natural and helps prevent eye strain during long stints.

How the Calculations Work

The calculator uses standard triangle geometry to find the exact angle your eyes make with the screen:

Flat Monitors

Uses the width of your screen and your distance to calculate the field of view:

FOV = 2 × arctan( (Screen Width / 2) / Distance )

Curved Displays (1000R, 1500R, 1800R)

Adjusts for the screen curvature by calculating the circular arc and the change in distance from the center to the edges.

Triple Monitor Setups

Calculates the total horizontal span and the recommended physical angle for the left and right side monitors, including bezel compensation.

Supported Simulators

We support 18 popular racing and driving simulators, including:

  • Vertical FOV: Assetto Corsa, Assetto Corsa Competizione (ACC), iRacing, rFactor 2, Automobilista 2, DiRT Rally 2.0.
  • Horizontal FOV: Project CARS 1/2, RaceRoom Racing Experience, Euro Truck Simulator 2, American Truck Simulator.
  • Step & Slider Offsets: EA Sports F1 (2016–2024), EA Sports WRC.
  • Multiplier & Radians: GTR2, Race07, Richard Burns Rally.
