Understanding Game FOV Units

Different game developers use different mathematical conventions for their camera field of view:

Vertical FOV (vFOV)

Used in Assetto Corsa, ACC, iRacing, rFactor 2, and Automobilista 2. Defines the angle from the top edge to the bottom edge of your screen. Automatically scales horizontally for ultrawide displays.

Horizontal FOV (hFOV)

Used in Project CARS 1/2, RaceRoom Racing Experience, and Euro/American Truck Simulator. Defines the angle between left and right screen borders.

Step / Slider Offsets

Used in EA Sports F1 series and EA Sports WRC. These games use relative offset sliders with distinct base angles and incremental step notches rather than raw degrees.

Multipliers & Radians

Used in classic SimBin titles (GTR2, Race07) as a multiplier against a 58° base angle, and Richard Burns Rally in mathematical radians.
